Making Space

As you live deeper in the heart, the mirror gets clearer and cleaner. Rumi

Thanks to some deep reflection and wisdom and guidance from Mary Kay Stenger, I have actual evidence to validate the cliche "One door closes so others can open." Mary Kay's mantra to me has been more along the lines of "As doors close and you let go of things that no longer serve you, don't rush to fill in with new things. Wait and see what appears in your life. Feel connections with you heart not your brain. And choose those things that support, nurture and fulfill who you truly are and what you were meant to do."

Bart Crawford has often said to me when I'm going through change or letting things go, "Now don't go getting busy. New things are coming and if you get all busy you won't be able to see them."

Both are very good recommendations for someone like me who takes comfort in being busy. My dad had a few favorite sayings that taught me the value of being busy, "You gotta have the push!" and "Work along, now, work along." That philosophy was important in his time when there was healthy competition between small businesses and when manual labor and craftsmanship were admired and rewarded. So believe me, I'm not knocking my dad. It was because of the work ethic he and my mom taught me that I was able to raise two daughters, own a home and have a successful career.

But now the work world has changed as has the "work". But I digress from my original point.

My original point was that I'm going through another change. Really I ask? Again? This is only about the 8th one since Feb. 28, 2012. But whose counting (me for one). I have decided it is time to move on from the ranch where I've felt so safe and secure getting back into the horse world and explore how horses fit into my adult life. And into my authentic work. I've had great opportunity there to create the "Challenge by Choice (c) Horsemanship" clinics. Worked with amazing people. And, I've learned so much and been so rewarded with great friendships and amazing experiences. But it is time to leave the comfort and go to the stretch zone. (Model the behavior you desire in favorite saying.)

So with that being said, I'm getting really excited for Wednesday when two new friends who I have not yet met, fly into San Luis Obispo and come stay at my house. And on Thursday we meet another group of new friends and start our year-long journey in the Equus Coaching certification program with the amazing Koelle Simpson and her fantastic team.

Where will it take me? Why was I attracted to do this now? Don't know yet. But I felt in my heart it is the next right thing for me. And what I've learned so well over this past year, "I don't have to know." In the words of Martha Beck, (paraphrase) "I don't have to manifest the future. It is already created. All I have to do is fall in love with it."

And what does that have to do with cleaning the mirror? Well, the only way to be able to trust my heart, trust feeling over knowing and to be true with myself is to make sure I'm willing to look deep inside my self. And make choices that help me fall in love with what is meant to be for me.
